From Booth to Broidery

In my last blog, I wrote about my love of delving into old family photos. There’s something magical about flipping through the albums of faded memories, reminiscing about times gone by. Recently I’ve noticed there’s been a resurgence on social media of photo booth photos. I’ve always had a soft spot for them, I remember the fun of me and my friends cramming into the booth in Woolworths when we were kids. Those little moments captured in time bring back a flood of memories, and it’s lovely to see other people making those memories and remembering their old ones too.
It also takes me back to when I met Liam. Our paths crossed through friends, but we often found ourselves commuting to Brighton for work, stealing glances at each other during the journey. It was spontaneous, and we grew close over time. When we started dating, we took strolls around North Laine in Brighton, visiting Snoopers Paradise to stop by the photo booth and capture the moment. There’s something undeniably romantic about photo booth pictures; they remind me of the film "Amélie," one of my favourites. Whether you’re celebrating a new love or capturing anniversary moments, photo booths have a way of romanticising our lives.
It’s no surprise then, that photo booth snaps are some of my favourite photos to embroider. The lighting and contrast of a photo booth produces a great image for embroidering, especially in black & white. In fact, these monochromatic photo booth snapshots inspired one of the first embroidery pieces I created. The contrast and simplicity of those images lend themselves fantastically to embroidery, allowing for a beautiful depiction of our memories.
So, if I have interested you in stitching your snaps, here is what’s going to make them look great…
When you send in a photo for embroidery, I’m looking for close-ups with great lighting. Ideally, there should be one to three people for the best detail. If you prefer a larger piece, we can create a more expansive embroidery that captures the essence of the moment. If you’re a lover of photo booth pictures or have an old memory you'd like to bring to life, especially in black and white, they translate perfectly into embroidery.
If you’d like me to embroider one of your photos, I can also provide advice to help you choose the perfect photo and discuss finishes for your embroidery. Whether you want to preserve a cherished memory or create a unique piece of art, I’m here to help you stitch those moments into something beautiful.
